Spaghetti Anyone???

When I was growing up if asked what my favorite meal was I would often say "Spaghetti". I loved spaghetti!! I still liked spaghetti up until probably a couple of years ago and for some reason it just lost its flair. I still ate it, (because what Mormon family doesn't at least twice a month?) but just didn't love it anymore. This summer things changed for me. When I visited Heidi this summer I watched as her and her sister put together a spaghetti sauce that was so good I had at least two or three helpings of it. When I got home I tried to copy the sauce and it just didn't turn out quite the same. I also learned that maybe it is better to serve the noodles and the sauce separately instead of mixed together which is what I have always done. I then had another friend, Marie, feed our family spaghetti this summer and her sauce was wonderful too and I found that their secret ingredient was brown sugar. I have finally made a concoction of the two that I love and last week I couldn't get enough of it, it was SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!! I have not measured anything however so here is a list of all the things I throw in:

1 jar of store bought sauce

1 can of chopped tomatos

1 can of mushrooms ( if you like them)

1 lb. hamburger

garlic

oregano

thyme

basil

about a 1/4 cup brown sugar

1 package of dry spaghetti sauce mix

I brown the hamburger with the mushrooms and garlic then add all of the other ingredients the spices I just throw in some until it smells good and then simmer the sauce, until my noodles are done. So if any of you are looking for a little different spaghetti sauce try putting a little bit of brown sugar in even my kids who never like the sauce, I make them eat a small helping with sauce then the prefer the noodles covered in butter and salt, actually said it was good today. My love for spaghetti is back!!
